From Seed to Centerpiece: Working with a Farmer-Florist for Your Event

2/24/2017

There are farmers, there are florists, and then there are farmer-florists. As farmers, we plant, tend, and grow the flowers from seed to bloom. As florists, we then take those flowers and arrange them in centerpieces, bouquets, or other pieces according to our customer's needs. We are a sort of all-in-one approach to our customer's floral needs, redefining the floral industry by placing flowers directly from our hands into yours.

So what does it mean to work with a farmer-florist? It means you will have a direct connection with the person growing and arranging your flowers....we are right here in your local community, and work with you directly to turn your vision into a reality. It means your flowers will be cut within a day or two of reaching your hands....they are FRESH and will last at least a week, if not longer. It means an amazing variety of colors, textures, forms, and fragrances....we specialize in growing things that you will not see in a typical florist shop. It means working with someone with a deep passion for what they do....we farmer-florists are a very passionate, creative bunch who see potential for beauty and innovative arrangements by experimenting with all sorts of forms, colors, and textures. It means your designs will echo the season's bounty....we fill the growing season with so many annual and perennial varieties, with several (often 2-6) plantings of each variety throughout the season. It means knowing with confidence how your flowers are grown....we use sustainable growing practices and avoid chemical use at all cost.

Do you have your heart set on peonies in August or sunflowers in May? Then we may not be the best choice for you! Commercial florists have the ability to order most any flower from all around the globe. However, think for a minute about how that flower is going to look when it ends up in your hands after traveling thousands of miles, passing through many, many hands....not to mention the conditions under which it was grown or the chemical use involved. Instead of a peony in August, how about a freshly-picked and beautifully amazing dahlia, zinnia, or lisianthus? We are more than happy and willing to talk to you about what we grow and how those flowers may fit into your vision or style. Farmer-florists can guarantee an amazingly fresh and beautiful product, however we cannot guarantee specific flowers. We take your requested color palate and choose from the wide variety of flowers we have blooming at that time to create something that meets your style and design. There is also the potential for us to custom grow flowers or varieties especially for your event - we love doing this! In order for this to happen, we need to have enough time to make adequate seeding plans. Contacting us sooner than later can ensure that we can work towards making that happen for you.

We always invite clients we work with to come to our farm and see for themselves what we have growing. This is a chance for you to take in the colors, forms, and scents for yourself and see just what shade of pink that pink cosmos is, or how incredible that silvery-green cerinthe might look in your bouquet. Usually this is done a week or two before your event, so you can see what varieties will be blooming as we begin preparations. This is a great time to talk about how the pieces are going to come together and we can even come up with some samples for you to consider.

Above all, we farmer-florists love flowers....growing them, arranging them, talking about them, taking pictures of them, and talking about them some more! Our passion is contagious, so join in and consider using local flowers for your next event!
