A few weeks ago, we hosted our first Field to Vase workshop on the farm. We had so much fun with this awesome bunch of ladies (and one 7 year old gentleman)! Just look at all those smiles with their masterpieces! While we waited for the afternoon rain to pass through, we first spent some time in the workshop talking about the basics of floral design, how to plan a cutting garden to ensure continuous blooms throughout the entire season, at what stage of development to harvest flowers, using what you have available in your woods, pastures, and wetlands to supplement your garden flowers when the spring can be so slow to bloom.....lots of questions and answers and getting to know fellow flower friends! Then, with clippers in hand, we set outside to tour the fields and gather materials for everyone's arrangements. Along the way, we talked about pinching, where and how to harvest certain varieties, and growing in landscape fabric. Everyone got right to work with their arrangements back in the workshop, chatting and clipping along the way. It was so much fun to see the variety and personalities of each arrangement! We then said good-bye after a few snacks, pictures, and door prizes (I am a total sucker for these!). Although only a few weeks ago, the farm has changed so much and we are flush in blooms! As the season changes, each workshop will absorb its own unique set of topics specific to that time of year. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to connect with fellow gardeners and flower friends! When we built this workspace in our barn a few years ago, the vision to host workshops like this was clear and bright -- seeing this dream come to life was priceless, thank you all so much for coming!
Our next Field to Vase workshops are on August 27 and September 17. We will have a Fresh Flower Crown workshop on July 23, as well as some dried and fresh evergreen wreath workshops in the fall. Please see our workshops page for more information! Comments are closed.
